Jeff grew up in the small town of Gordo, Alabama. After high school, he attended Jacksonville State University where he served as a student assistant football coach and earned his B.S. in physical education, history, and science. After 10 years of teaching and coaching in Alabama public schools he earned a M.S. degree from Alabama A&M University and was hired as principal at a PreK through ninth grade school in Tharptown. He later became principal of Russellville High School. Jeff earned his Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University and concluded his 30-year career by serving as Superintendent of Muscle Shoals City Schools for 11 years.

Jeff is proud of his tenure as a public-school educator and especially proud of the fact that two of his grandparents, his wife, two daughters, one daughter-in-law, and one son-in-law either were or currently are public-school teachers.

Jeff married his high school sweetheart Jquan, and they are approaching 38 years together. They are the proud parents of two daughters, Mallory and Meredith, and one son, Spencer and their spouses Davy (Mallory), Anna (Spencer), and Alex (Meredith). They have been blessed with four grandchildren, Aubrey, Vivian, Turner, and Rhoads with Baby B arriving soon!

Jeff currently lives in Muscle Shoals, Alabama where he serves as Senior Director of Accreditation for a non-profit school accrediting organization. Jeff loves the Lord and serves Him faithfully as a volunteer staff member at Parkview Baptist Church. He enjoys spending his free time reading, writing, watching sporting events, and cherishes time spent with his family.
